You are tasked to configure the addressing for the perimeter router. Use the network 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0. After subnetting 4 bits, which of the following will configure the FastEthernet interface with the first host IP address of the fifth subnet and the Serial interface with the first host IP address of the sixth subnet. Use the zero subnet.

1. “router # configure terminal
router (config)# interface fa 0/0
router (config-if)# ip address 172.16.5.1 255.255.255.0
router (config-if)#interface serial 1/0
router (config-if)#ip address 172.16.6.1 255.255.255.0″

2. “router # configure terminal
router (config)# interface fa 0/0
router (config-if)# ip address 172.16.64.1 255.255.248.0
router (config-if)#interface serial 0/0
router (config-if)#ip address 172.16.80.1 255.255.248.0″

3. “router # configure terminal
router (config)# interface fa 0/1
router (config-if)# ip address 172.16.64.1 255.255.240.0
router (config-if)#interface serial 0/0
router (config-if)#ip address 172.16.80.1 255.255.240.0″

4. “router # configure terminal
router (config)# interface fa 0/1
router (config-if)# ip address 172.16.5.1 255.255.240.0
router (config-if)#interface serial 0/0
router (config-if)#ip address 172.16.6.1 255.255.240.0″

5. “router # configure terminal
router (config)# interface fa 0/1
router (config-if)# ip address 172.16.80.1 255.255.240.0
router (config-if)#interface serial 0/0
router (config-if)#ip address 172.16.96.1 255.255.240.0″
The correct answer is 3.

This class B address with 4 subnet bits will have a mask of /20 or 255.255.240.0. The 5th subnet has subnet bits 0100 in the 3rd octet; the 6th subnet has subnet bits 0101 in the 3rd octet. The first host has host bits 0000 00000001 in the 3rd and 4th octet. When concatenated the bits for the FastEthernet are 01000000 00000001 or 64.1 decimal; for the Serial interface the bits are 01010000 00000001 or 80.1 decimal.

Your PC’s MAC address is 0010.1111.2222. Your PC gets its IPv6 address using stateless autoconfiguration. What is your PC’s EUI-64 format interface ID?

0010.11FF.FE11.2222

0210.1111.FFEE.2222

0210.1100.0011.2222

0210.11FF.FE11.2222

0000.0010.1111.2222

The correct answer is 4.

The EIU-64 format interface ID is created from the MAC address by setting the 7th bit of the 1st octet (the “unique” bit) to 1 and inserting FFFE into the middle of the address. In this scenario, the resulting interface ID is 0210.11FF.FE11.2222.

Last week we looked at Routing & Switching and Storage, so now we’ll go over Service Provider Certifications.

Service Provider Certification

CCIP

Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional (CCIP) validates advanced knowledge and skills required to manage service provider infrastructures. With a CCIP certification, a network professional working in a service provider organization demonstrates competencies in infrastructure IP networking solutions.

Prerequisite: Valid CCNA certification, or any CCIE certification.

Required Cisco Exams:
642–902 ROUTE
642–642 QOS
642–611 MPLS
642–661 BGP

CCIE Service Provider

Achieving CCIE Service Provider certification declares your expert-level ability to perform large-scale maintenance, troubleshoot implementation, and manage support of applications. It demonstrates that you have the skills to build extensible service provider infrastructures that deliver managed services.

Prerequisite: While there are no formal prerequisites for CCIE Service Provider certification, you are expected to have an in-depth understanding of the topics in the exam blueprints and are strongly encouraged to have three to five years of job experience before attempting certification.

Required Cisco Exams:
Step One: CCIE Service Provider Written Exam
You must pass the two-hour written exam that tests your knowledge of implementing, troubleshooting, and optimizing features and technologies, such as Packet over SONET, IP over DWDM, GE/10GE, BGP, IGP Routing, LDP, MPLS and MPLS TE, Multicast, HA, QoS, and Layer 2 and 3 VPNs, before scheduling the lab exam.

Step Two: CCIE Service Provider Lab Exam
The CCIE Service Provider lab exam is an eight-hour, hands-on exam which requires you to configure a series of networks to given specifications.

It is similar to the CCIE Routing and Switching lab, with more emphasis on BGP, OSPF, ISIS, multicast, and Quality of Service. Knowledge of troubleshooting is an important skill, and you are expected to diagnose and solve issues during the lab exam. You must make an initial attempt of the CCIE Service Provider lab exam within 18 months of passing the CCIE Service Provider written exam.

CCNA Service Provider Operations

Cisco’s Certified Network Associate in Service Provider Operations (CCNA SP Operations) certification validates basic knowledge and skills in a prescriptive troubleshooting environment within carrier class IP NGN core network infrastructure.

These skills are comparable to those of a Tier I support engineer, and include incident (event), fault, configuration, change, and performance management procedures, along with NMS tools and protocols.

Prerequisite: Valid CCENT, CCNA, or any CCIE certification.

Required Cisco Exam: 640–760 SSPO

CCNP Service Provider Operations

The Cisco Certified Network Professional in Service Provider Operations (CCNP SP Operations) program validates knowledge and skills required to troubleshoot and maintain service provider IP NGN core (PE-PE and PE-CE) network infrastructures.

With a CCNP SP Operations certification, you have proven that you have the skills required to isolate network performance problems, implement proactive fault measures using operations management processes, frameworks, and network management systems.

Covering topics that should be familiar to any Tier II or Tier III support engineer, the curriculum includes maintaining carrier class routing protocol environments, MPLS VPN and TE deployments, and QoS mechanisms using Cisco IOS and IOS XR.

Prerequisite: Valid CCNA SP Operations certification, or any CCIE certification.

Required Cisco Exams:
642–770 OFCN
642–775 MSPRP
642–780 MSPVM
642–785 MSPGS

CCIE Service Provider Operations

Certifies expert-level and skills of an expert-level (Tier III or Tier IV support) operations engineer to troubleshoot and maintain complex service provider IP NGN core (PE-PE and PE-CE) network infrastructures in both IOS and IOS XR operating environments, plus validate broad theoretical knowledge of operations management processes, frameworks, and network management systems.

Exam topics generally cover SP technologies, Operations Process Management, and NMS tools. There are also questions guided by ITIL v3 Core Service Lifecycle Framework, and other related topic areas may also appear.

Prerequisite: CCNP SP Operations is strongly recommended, as is 3–5 years of related job experience.

Required Cisco Exams
Step One: CCIE Service Provider Operations Written Exam
You must pass the two-hour written exam covering concepts and equipment commands related to packet-based networking infrastructure before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam.

Step Two: CCIE Service Provider Operations Lab Exam
The eight-hour practical exam tests your ability to configure actual equipment and get a service provider network running in a timed test situation.

172.16.2.2

There is not enough information to determine the router ID.

The correct answer is 1

If the router ID is not specified with the router-id command and if the router has loopback interfaces with IP addresses when OSPF is configured, the OSPF router ID is the highest such address. Otherwise the router ID is the highest IP address configured on an active interface.

Two PCs on the network have addresses 10.1.1.5 and 10.1.1.10.

Which command, when added to the router’s configuration, causes the PCs’ addresses to be translated to the router’s s0/0/0 address?

ip nat inside source list 1 209.165.200.1 overload

ip nat inside source list 1 interface s0/0/0 overload

ip nat inside source list 1 interface s0/0/0

ip nat inside source 1 interface s0/0/0 overload

The correct answer is 2.

The “ip nat inside source list 1 interface s0/0/0 overload” command specifies that source addresses permitted by access list 1 will be translated to the address of interface s0/0/0. The “overload” keyword indicates that PAT is used so that one outside address represents many inside addresses, using the port number to distinguish between the translations.

Certification from Cisco brings valuable, measurable rewards to network professionals, their managers, and the organizations that employ them. In this six part series, we’re going to break out the different types of certifications, define them, and show you the required exams and prerequisites.

Foundations Certifications

CCT — Cisco Certified Technician

CCT is specific training for other support technicians who service Cisco networking and system devices. CCT training is available for Routing and Switching, TelePresence, and Data Center Solutions. This training aims to ensure that onsite technicians have the skill set that is required to successfully diagnose and resolve support incidents quickly and effectively.

Required Cisco Exams

640–692 RSTECH
640–893 DCTECH
640–792 TPTECH

CCT Routing and Switching Certification

Cisco Exam 640–692 RSTECH

Cisco CCT Routing & Switching certification focuses on the skills required for onsite support and maintenance of Cisco routers, switches, and operating environments. Technicians in this area must be able to identify Cisco router and switch models, accessories, cabling, and interfaces; understand the Cisco IOS Software operating modes and identify commonly found software; and be able to use the Cisco Command Line Interface (CLI) to connect and service products.

Achieving CCT Routing & Switching certification is considered the best foundation for supporting other Cisco devices and systems.

Prerequisite: None

CCT Data Center Certification

Cisco Exam 640–893 DCTECH

CCT Data Center certification focuses on the skills required for onsite support and maintenance of Cisco Unified Computing Systems and servers. Technicians in this area must be able to identify Cisco UCS components and servers, accessories, cabling and interfaces; understand the Cisco UCS and NX-OS operating modes and identify commonly-found software; and be able to use the Cisco Graphical User Interface to connect and service product components.

Prerequisite: Valid CCT Routing and Switching certification

CCT TelePresence

Cisco Exam 640–792 TPTECH

CCT TelePresence certification focuses on the skills required for onsite support and maintenance of Cisco TelePresence Systems. Technicians in this area must be able to identify Cisco TelePresence models, accessories, cabling, and interfaces; understand the Cisco TelePresence operating modes and identify commonly found software; and be able to use the Cisco Command Line Interface (CLI) to connect and service products and make basic Cisco TelePresence system adjustments.

Prerequisite: Valid CCT Routing and Switching certification

CCENT — Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician

CCENT certification was created to address the need for networking professionals with a solid practical understanding of modern TCP/IP networks built with Cisco hardware, and it verifies practical skills required for entry-level network support positions. CCENT certification serves as the base of Cisco’s certification pyramid, is similar in nature to CompTIA’s Network+ Certification, and represents the first step in earning your CCNA certification.

Prerequisite: None

Required Cisco Exam: 640–822 ICND1

CCNA — Cisco Certified Network Associate

Earning your Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) is the starting point of many successful and rewarding IT careers. It says to the world — and more importantly, to potential employers — that you have the proven ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-sized routing and switching networks.

Prerequisite: Familiarity with TCP/IP, IP configuration, subnetting, routing tables, and other network standards.

Required Cisco Exams: 640–822 ICND1 + 640–816 ICND2 or 640–802 CCNA

The correct answer is 3.

The “encapsulation dot1q” interface configuration command enables 802.1q trunking and specifies the VLAN number of the subinterface. The “native” keyword is required on the native VLAN, indicating that frames should not be tagged.
