CCNA Question of the Week
In this weekly series, Jill Liles posts questions and answers to help readers prepare for the CCNA exam
In which of the following subnet masks does the boundary between network/subnet information and host information fall on an octet boundary?
- 255.0.0.0
- 255.255.0.0
- 255.255.255.0
- All of the above
The correct answer is 4.
The boundary between network/subnet information and host information is the boundary between the binary 1s and binary 0s in the subnet mask. Since in all of these masks each octet is either all 1s (255 decimal) or all 0s (0 decimal), the boundary falls on an octet boundary in all of these subnet masks.
