Can you measure your benefit as a manager?

Many managers justify their day by providing guidance when needed, final votes on a major decision, monitoring progress and fighting fires. Are your team members aware of what you do, why you do it, and how it affects them?

This is an often-heard complaint about managers: they know nothing about what their staff does. Maybe this is true, but maybe that is why they are managers instead!

There are different skills needed when in management, and almost all of them revolve around good communication. If you cannot talk to people, if you do not listen well, if you do not let people have their say before responding, you will find management hard – a constant, up-hill grind.
